[Introduction] This poem is a New Year’s greeting. The first half expresses Li Xuying’s aversion to war and her hope for peace; the second half discusses how to help each other and make progress through The Woman’s Voice Biweekly, reflecting her expectation for the magazine. Published on The Woman’s Voice Biweekly volume 1, issue 7.

“New Hopes of This Year”
Broken rivers and mountains through tearful eyes I see,
As the year ends and spring returns, another year for thee.
War-horses of the Central Plains,
Sentry fires on the Northern borders reign.
Exiled to the wilderness we roam,
In hunger and cold, we cry and moan.
All these moments,
No more shall we lament.
Cease, cease!
No more delay, I beseech.
Hurry, hurry!
Reclaim our homeland without delay.
March on, march!
March alongside the mighty powers, march.
For all the world is but one family,
Why must we, flesh and blood, be enemies?
Let us shoulder our responsibilities,
Reforming the hearts of the next generation.
Let us wisely use our emotions,
To support and advance our mutual mission.
Let us exchange our intellectual tides,
Playing with words, striking the chords of our minds.
Let us manage our own households affairs,
Embracing life’s mundane cares.
Concentrate on the new hopes of this year,
Make them reality, appear.
May the voices of women shake the universe,
And soothe the deep-rooted grievances.
